Evidence of Learning

Briefly describe an example (or provide a hyperlink to your work) to demonstrate your level of learning.

Examine how attitudes towards linguistic standards empower and oppress language users. Explore how views on language standards can affect speakers positively and negatively  4 It was easier for me to understand the concepts through the readings by Tan, Hughes, Young, and my own LLN essay.
Explore and analyze, in writing and reading, a variety of genres and rhetorical situations. Experimenting with and understanding different writing and reading from different genres and rhetorical situations. 4 I also found it easier to understand through the peer reviews I did with my classmates and the translations for both the LLN and synthesis assignments.
Develop strategies for reading, drafting, collaborating, revising, and editing. Learning new ways to improve reading, drafting, collaborating, revising, and editing. 5 It helped me most when I went to the writing center for my LLN, when I had multiple peer reviews in class, and during my 1-on-1 meeting for my synthesis essay.
Recognize and practice key rhetorical terms and strategies when engaged in writing situations. Understanding and using important rhetorical skills and strategies that help strengthen your writing. 5 I would say I demonstrated this skill best in my LLN and my translation assignment.
Understand and use print and digital technologies to address a range of audiences. Understand how to find your target audience through media and be able to deliver your message. 5 I improved this skill in the translation I did for both the LLN essay and the synthesis essay, where I had to use different media to convey my message to my audience.
Locate research sources (including academic journal articles, magazine and newspaper articles) in the library’s databases or archives and on the Internet and evaluate them for credibility, accuracy, timeliness, and bias. Understanding and identifying where your research sources come from and how reliable they are. 3 This was very difficult for me, but I was able to improve my skills through the synthesis essay, the peer reviews, and the handout for the two-sentence summary.
Compose texts that integrate a stance with appropriate sources, using strategies such as summary, analysis, synthesis, and argumentation. Creating texts that include a clear argument supported by reliable sources. 5 I was able to improve this skill in my synthesis essay.
Practice systematic application of citation conventions. Understanding and applying this knowledge to cite sources properly. 5 In my synthesis essay, I was able to improve this skill specifically in the works cited page.
